Taking a private view on cyber

Our award-winning Private Client team is committed to providing exceptional client service and advice to our clients, tailored to their personal circumstances and needs.

Private View, produced in collaboration with leading experts within BDO and the wider industry, is a publication that takes a wider view on issues that matter to our clients. In this edition we focus on cybercrime.

How can private individuals stay protected in the digital age?

With fraud now the most commonly experienced crime in the country, in this edition we look in at cybercrime. In 2016 alone there were 3.6 million fraud incidents, with 1.9 million of those cyber-related and it has become clear that cyber criminals are not only after money, but rather people’s identities may be the bigger prize. Criminals can monetise seemingly harmless data in indirect ways and use them in more complex identity fraud.

Alongside the financial risk of cyber threats also comes the ever present need to manage reputation and to protect privacy.

In this issue we explore:

  • Who is most at risk
  • The trends in cybercrime tactics
  • The invasion of privacy and reputational risk
  • How individuals and families can protect themselves and their identities.
